The Ballet Orchestra presents in association with ISH Dance Collective present the musical theater performance THOR. An epic tale in classical music, hip-hop dance and spoken word, based on the stories from the Edda, Nordic mythology.

Musicians and dancers together tell the story of Thor and his friend Loki going on an adventure. They discover the power of nature, feast with gods and compete for THOR's hammer. An exciting show about power, deception and friendship, with live 43-piece orchestra for families with children ages 8 and up.

Thor, son of chief god Odin, is a rebellious child. With the lightning goddesses, he drinks beer and beats up giants. But then he receives from fire spirit Loki the wonder hammer Mjöllnir, a gift that seals their friendship for life. When the troll king Prymr steals the hammer, a great adventure begins for Thor and Loki....

The Ballet Orchestra

The Ballet Orchestra moves the dance. That is the mission of the Ballet Orchestra. Since its founding in 1965, the orchestra has been the proud musical partner of the Dutch National Ballet and Nederlands Dans Theater. In every performance, the orchestra is looking for inspiring synergy between music and dance, in order to provide an enchanting experience for the audience.

ISH Dance Collective

ISH Dance Collective has been successfully finding a way off the beaten path for twenty-five years. Inspired by street culture, founder and artistic director Marco Gerris brings hip-hop dance and urban sports to the theater. Performances often connect with traditional art forms. This creates freedom of movement when you let go of the frames: the connecting power of an open mind.

Thor is a spectacular show that combines classical music and hiphop dance. The dancers from ISH are amazing to watch. The orchestra's music is enchantingly beautiful.

Director Marco Gerris gets the Ballet Orchestra moving with remarkable ease.

De Volkskrant

The Ballet Orchestra plays compositions that the dancers know how to respond to; they pop their chests, stretch their limbs with rolling and threading movements, and perform impressive freezes on one hand.

Theaterkrant

All praise to the musicians, who also show their theatrical side and throw themselves into the performance with obvious pleasure. Dancing when necessary—sometimes as a dwarf, sometimes as an ice giant with a silvery white wig—they move across genres, sometimes simply claiming the leading role. Then you see how Marco Gerris's intertwining of arts, of the new “from the street” with the traditional, simply works: as long as you do it and dare to be bold. The two goddesses (Kayra Bayraktar and Emma Houston), as b-girls with insane headspins, are amazing to Stravinsky.
