Studio ISH x Meervaart Jong: hip hop classes in Amsterdam

Are you crazy about breaking, house, hip hop, or street dance? Or do you just want to move, learn new moves and tricks, and discover your own creativity? Then the classes at Studio ISH x Meervaart Jong in Amsterdam Nieuw West are perfect for you!

Develop your skills and discover your own style

During the classes, you will work according to the ISH philosophy and the Meervaart vision. This means that having fun while dancing is paramount. You will be introduced to different dance styles and forms of movement—from hip hop and street dance to house and breaking. This will teach you how your body works, improve your technique, and help you discover how to develop your own dance style and creativity. The classes are divided into two age groups:

• 6-9 years (regular class, no experience necessary) → Tuesday 4:00–5:00 p.m.
• 10-14 years (regular class, no experience necessary) → Tuesday 5:30–7:00 p.m.
• 10-14 years (production group) * → Wednesday 5:00 p.m. –7:30 p.m.

Take note:

• We do not offer lessons during school holidays. After the Christmas holidays, classes will resume on 13 January 2026. View the full schedule here.
• The final presentation takes place during the Meervaart Jong Festival on 29, 30 or 31 May 2026

* This group is intended for dedicated young people who have dance experience. The level is higher than the regular classes, the classes are longer, and you will work on a longer final performance. You do not need to audition for this.

Guidance from experienced teachers

The lessons are given by a permanent teacher from Meervaart Jong and guest teachers from the ISH Academy. These professional dance teachers and performers bring their own experience and energy to the table. They give you challenging assignments, inspiring exercises, and help you develop your skills and creativity. A lesson lasts 1 to 1.5 hours and is always full of energy and variety.

Meervaart and ISH: a strong partnership

The partnership between Meervaart Jong and ISH Dance Collective brings together the best of both worlds. Meervaart provides personal guidance and structure, while ISH offers the creative, groundbreaking style of dance that is so characteristic of the collective. Registration and communication are handled by Meervaart Jong, in consultation with ISH Academy.

Costs

• 6-9 years (regular lessons): €220 for 30 weeks (including two tickets for Meervaart Jong Festival)
• 10-14 years (regular lessons): €280 for 30 weeks (including two tickets for Meervaart Jong Festival)
• 10-14 years (production group): €400 for 30 weeks (including two tickets for Meervaart Jong Festival)

Participation in the lessons is made even more accessible thanks to various arrangements:

Location

Classes take place in the makers studio of Het Talentenhuis Meer en Vaart 290 in Amsterdam. The location is a 3-minute walk from the Osdorpplein Oost stop and is easily accessible by bicycle, car, and public transport. On the day of the class, students report to the manager of Het Talentenhuis.

Begeleiding van ervaren docenten

De lessen worden verzorgd door een vaste docent van Meervaart Jong en gastdocenten van de ISH Academy. Deze professionele dansdocenten en performers brengen hun eigen ervaring en energie mee. Ze geven je uitdagende opdrachten, inspirerende oefeningen en helpen je jouw skills én creativiteit te ontwikkelen. Een les duurt 1 tot 1,5 uur en zit altijd vol energie en variatie.

Meervaart en ISH: een sterke samenwerking

De samenwerking tussen Meervaart Jong en ISH Dance Collective brengt het beste van twee werelden samen. Vanuit Meervaart krijg je persoonlijke begeleiding en structuur, en vanuit ISH ervaar je de creatieve, grensverleggende manier van dansen die zo kenmerkend is voor het collectief. De inschrijving en communicatie verlopen via Meervaart Jong, in overleg met ISH Academy.

Locatie

De lessen vinden plaats in de makers studio van Het Talentenhuis Meer en Vaart 290 in Amsterdam. De locatie bevindt zich op 3 minuten lopen van halte Osdorpplein Oost en is goed bereikbaar met fiets, auto en OV. Op de dag van de les melden leerlingen zich bij de beheerder van Het Talentenhuis.
