Tyrone Menig wins Swan Award

Last Friday, during the Dutch Dance Days, ISH dancer Tyrone Menig received the Zwaan Award for the most impressive dance performance of 2026 for his role in A Fine Mess, a production by ISH Dance Collective, Jakop Ahlbom Company, and DeLaMar.

“Tyrone Menig is a virtuoso breakdancer specializing in locking and breaking, but in the slapstick extravaganza A Fine Mess, he also demonstrates great comedic talent, with exaggerated and infectious acting, zany stunts, and tricks borrowed from martial arts. With this versatility, he contributes to a dance practice that pushes the boundaries of hip-hop and challenges its conventions.”

The Dutch Dance Days

The 2026 VSCD Dance Awards were presented on October 2 during the gala of the Dutch Dance Days at Theater aan het Vrijthof. These awards are known as the prestigious Swans and Young Swans. They are awarded annually to companies, choreographers, and dancers who have delivered impressive performances over the past season.

A Fine Mess

Tyrone will be performing in the revival tour of A Fine Mess from October 23 through December 23. For this explosive action comedy, Jakop Ahlbom and Marco Gerris draw inspiration from, among other sources, films by Tarantino, the Coen Brothers, and iconic action movies from the 1980s, such as Lethal Weapon and Die Hard. The show will be touring throughout the Netherlands.

Innovation Award for Cheroney Pelupessy

Cheroney Pelupessy won the Innovation Award on October 2. Cheroney has joined ISH as a new artist. Cheroney explores how stories from the past still live on in our bodies. Through her performances, she creates connections: she builds bridges between different styles, generations, and art forms. Under the ISH Talent banner, she is touring the Netherlands this fall with her performance DJANGAN! The jury said of Cheroney:

“In recent years, Cheroney has worked on developing a unique movement language. She has done this by researching the movement vocabulary within her cultural and ethnic roots. She has combined this with her background in Western contemporary dance, giving rise to a style that is distinctly her own. By making the personal universal, each performance leaves a deep impression on her audience.”

Congratulations, Tyrone and Cheroney, on these amazing awards. You deserve them wholeheartedly!
