René van der Leest

René van der Leest is an architectural interior designer and theater designer. Together with Sigrid van Kleef, he runs Studio Ruim, where they seamlessly integrate modern designs into classical buildings. In addition, René has been designing the costumes and sets for dance and theater company ISH with some regularity since 2011. The crossover mentality of ISH fits perfectly with his love for connecting different worlds. In his designs, he enhances theatrical expression with a keen sense of precision, detail and use of materials. From his background in architecture, he is driven to translate stories into designs that add new layers and meanings to existing contexts, both in space and costume.
